Anyone who swings by our Cool New Bird Stuff Category will see well, a lot of cool new bird stuff. We brought on a new partner recently, Avitech a company that specializes in vitamins and supplements exclusively for birds with products all made here in the USA.
We need to provide reasons for you to spend time on our website and eventually have the trust to shop with us. While looking at our website recently, placing myself in your position, I found myself looking at many products which didn’t necessarily explain themselves well. Rather than assuming that you know what a product is for just because you see the title, is a poor assumption on our part.
We are dedicated to providing solutions that help you maintain a high quality of life for your captive bird(s). With that in mind I’m going to take a moment to outline some health problems people may have with their birds while at the same time providing – possible – solutions.
We’re not here to replace your veterinarian. Were here to hopefully to keep you down to one “well bird” checkup a year. I’ve identified a dozen of the most prevalent bird keeping health problems we see and matched them up with some potential solutions.
Problem: Your bird will only eat seed and you wonder if he or she is getting the right nutrition – Solution: AviVita Plus Multivitamin Supplement – Even vitamin fortified seed will not insure your bird gets all the nutrition necessary to keep an animal that can fly, in optimal health
Problem: Poop is covering everything in the cage and my bird keeps walking through it – Solution: AviTech AviClean Non-Rinse Cage and Aviary Cleaner and Deodorizer cuts Cage Cleaning Time in Half. It is is a powerful enzyme based cleaner that we believe is the worlds best cage cleaner/deodorizer. Twice the dirt-eating enzymes of the leading poop remover. Just spray and wipe, no rinse needed. Will not harm metal or painted surfaces.
Problem: Feather plucking – Solution: Feather-In
Can we cure feather plucking? I explore that here. Feather-In is a new approach to treating dry skin-related feather picking. Per Paula H of Springfield IL “We have successfully treated three of our birds for seasonal feather picking using this product. The product works immediately (which gives us the impression that their feather problems are irritation oriented rather than behaviorally oriented.) We also provide our birds with attention, toys, and a varied and well-balanced diet”.
Problem: Screaming: Solution: AviCalm Calming Bird Supplement
Bird safe, non-sedating, non-toxic. deposit on fruit, veggies, or seed. L-Theanine has been the subject of serious intensive research relating to animal behavior. Studies of pet dogs and cats with problems such as excessive barking, aggression and destructive behavior have proven L-Theanine’s effectiveness in treating these problems.
Problem: Calcium loss due to egg laying – Solution: Cal-D-Solve Calcium/Magnesium Supplement – North american light cycles trick our female birds into abnormal egg production. Egg production depletes calcium in a hens body. Cal-D-Solve is a high-performance calcium/magnesium supplement, with added vitamin D3, formulated for maximum absorption in the gut and clear solubility in drinking water. Cal-D-Solve contains no color or flavoring and no preservatives. It is used when calcium deficiency is present or for chronic egg layers or birds producing soft shell eggs
Problem: Weight loss due to illness – Solution: AviGain Weight Additive Supplement
A high-energy formulation of complex carbohydrates, vegetable fat, and proteins. Use for convalescing birds or to maintain weight on weaning chicks. Birds often need help in gaining or maintaining weight during or after illness. It is common for birds to become thin when they become ill and they urgently need to maintain weight:
Problem: Candida, fungus, yeast and bacterial infections – Solution: AviPow Anti-Fungal & Anti-Bacterial
Lab studies have shown the active ingredient in AviPow to be even more effective than a widely used prescription drug for fungus. It has shown effectiveness against Candida, Aspergillus, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus. Antiviral properties have also been demonstrated against Herpes (I and II), Influenza, and Polio viruses. The indigenous people of South America noted, probably thousands of years ago, that no fungus grew on the bark of the Lapacho tree. They used the bark (called Pau d’arco) as a medicine to treat fungal and bacterial infections as well as parasitic infestations, fevers, colds, respiratory problems, and even toothaches.
Problem: Dull feathers and dry flaky skin – Solution: AviGlo 100% Organic Red Dende Palm Oil – AviGlo premium palm oil is a certified organic red oil obtained by cold pressing the fruit of the dende palm. It provides a number of essential fatty acids including omega 3 and omega 6. Palm oil is familiar to birds in the wild as many use palm fruit as a large part of their diet. Macaws and Cockatoos as well as African Greys particularly benefit from eating AviGlo palm oil. AviGlo palm oil helps put sheen into dull feathers and improves dry flaky skin and feet. It’s great for all birds, but especially greys, macaws and cockatoos
Problem: Pain from wounds or arthritis, compromised immune or respiratory system – Solution: Echinacea Angustifolia Root for Bird’s Immune & Respiratory System
Echinacea Angustifolia provides analgesic properties which can be used to treat pain from external wounds, internal inflammation, and arthritis. It can enhance the immune system and can be used to treat respiratory infections.
Problem: Breeding, molting or shipping has created stress for my bird Solution: AviBios Lactobacillus and Probiotics.
Lactobacillus Acidophilus is a source of a viable live, naturally occurring micro-organism, which is found predominant in the digestive system of man and all warm blooded animals. Stress conditions such as new arrivals, molting, breeding, feeding young, growth, preparation for flight, illness and injury, along with contaminated feed and water, food soured in the crop, chlorinated water, antifungal and antibiotic therapy, can all cause a great imbalance of various types of micro-organisms in the crop and intestine tract, leaving birds susceptible to digestive problems. Probiotic supplementation involves supplying large quantities of beneficial bacteria that normally live in the small intestine of warm blooded animals. These beneficial bacteria “crowd-out” disease causing organisms by taking over nutrients and attachment sites. They also make the intestine less favorable for harmful bacteria and yeast by producing lactic and acetic acids.
Problem: My bird is aging or chronically ill – Solution: Avi-Immune Immunity Booster – DMG is thought the improve energy and stamina by improving the cellular use of oxygen. And, most significantly, studies have shown large increases in immune response under treatment with DMG. There are also many other effects attributed to DMG, including antioxidant properties, cholesterol regulating effects, improved mental abilities. Avi-Immune is therefore an excellent supplement for aging or chronically ill birds or birds experiencing stressful situations.
Problem: We live in an industrial area and I’m concerned about the effect environmental toxins have on my bird – Solution: System Detox Extract
Environmental toxins are a particular concern as birds’ sensitive respiratory tracts are especially vulnerable to pesticides, fertilizers, smoke, unclean water that can affect their general health and immune systems. This formula works to purify the blood, protect and support organ function and protects the body from further damage while helping liver function for efficient removal of systemic waste and absorbed toxins.
